Scottish Pop Song of the Day #41

Nick Robertson – Show Me A Sign (1992)

I mentioned my adolescent ardour for Edinburgh soul-pop singer-songwriter Nick Robertson when I wrote about Pride & Joy, his duet with Maria McKee, here. Show Me A Sign was another highlight from his debut (and only) album, ‘Bulletproof Boy’ (1993), and it recently occurred to me that Paolo Nutini could do an excellent version of this song. Indeed, it struck me that Robertson presaged Paolo’s particular brand of brassy, soulful jock-pop by a couple of decades…
And then he disappeared.
