Scottish Pop Song of the Day #5

Future Pilot AKA feat. Karine Polwart – ‘Shenandoah’ (2007)
Before the wonderful Burns Unit, there was this: a wistful, shimmering-folk psalm from two BU protagonists. It provided one of many highlights on Future Pilot alias Sushil Dade’s ‘Secrets From The Clockhouse’ album (Creeping Bent), which also starred Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore (on all-star Sun Ra love-in, Nuclear War); B&S’ Stuart Murdoch and Sarah Martin (on toy-box aria Eyes of Love); and the Go-Betweens’ Grant McLennan and Robert Forster (on miniature pop-opera City of Lights). Meanwhile, its cast of Scottish mavericks spanned Davy Henderson, Alex Neilson and Alasdair Gray. Former Soup Dragon and BMX Bandit Dade has an enduring, precious talent for gorgeous, cross-cultural pop alchemy.
